Kilmore journal is big hit with young and old

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

THERE was a fantastic turnout at the annual launch of the Kilmore Parish Journal last week in the Stella Maris Centre.

Chairman Seamus O’Keeffe said the evening had been a great success with plenty of fresh faces in the audience including some young people.

‘There was an enthusiastic audience there including young people which was great to see. It’s nice to get new people involved. The journal was launched by author Cat Hogan who is a member of the journal committee this year.

‘Kevin Whitty played music before the launch which people really enjoyed. Kevin himself writes for the journal too and is a poet.’

Seamus and secretary of the committee Frank Lonergan gave speeches on the night. Awards were also given to Evan Doyle and Zoe Kinneen who are members of the creative writing course in Bridgetown Vocational School.

Seamus said that great praise should go to editor Seamus O’Brien who did Trojan work putting the journal together.

This is the 46th annual journal and the high quality glossy publication is one to treasure.

The journal which has almost 200 pages retails at €12 and is available from the majority of shops in Kilmore, Ballycogley and at SOS Bookshop and the Book Centre in Wexford town.

The journal features a stunning picture of the Forlorn on the front which was taken by Nicola Reddy while the back photo showing the kitchen at Mary Barry’s was taken by Seamus O’Brien and continues the Kilmore At Work theme.

Some of the highlights of the journal include: The Forlorn Grave, the Well on the Strand and the Four Acre Field.

The journal also features the very popular Down Memory Lane feature depicting photos of times past from Kilmore, Kilmore Quay, Mulrankin and Tomhaggard as well as the Liz Jefferies Archive.
