SPOOKTACULAR!

BRIDGETOWN STUDENTS BRING ADDAMS FAMILY MUSICAL TO STAGE

- By ANNA HAYES

AUDIENCES ENJOYED a scare at Christmas time in Bridgetown Vocational College when students took to the stage with their production of ‘The Addams Family’.

Telling the story of the famed spooky family, the musical follows Wednesday who, having fallen for an all-American boy, brings him for dinner. As expected, madness ensues.

The musical featured a cast of 28, all but four of whom were junior cycle students. Director and music teacher Eileen Creevey said she was able to draw on a wealth of talent in the school with many of those involved having taken part in Kilmore National School’s award-winning ‘The Lion King’ two years ago, and others involved in Kilmore Tops.

‘We have staged variety shows over the last few years but we hadn’t performed a musical for about eight years and I wanted to return to that. I chose ‘The Addams Family’ because it’s a very good and very funny show and it suited our needs in terms of cast size. It was also something different, something that hasn’t been done in Wexford before.’

She commended the outstanding performances by the leads and the chorus, and also paid tribute to the entire school body who worked tirelessly on the production. She said they hoped to do another musical in two years time.

The cast featured: Evan Clarke as Gomez, Leah Busher as Morticia, Mathu Pierce as Pugsley, Caoimhe Troy as Wednesday, Jack O’Brien as Uncle Fester, Emma Daly as Grandmama, Sammy Delaney as Lurch, Jack Donovan as Lucas, Emma Murphy as Alice and Josh Power as Mal.
