CAROL SERVICE

Danescastl­e Music Group will hold a Christmas Carol Service in Church of Mary Immaculate and St Joseph, Carrig-on-Bannow on Saturday, December 23, at 7.30 p.m.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Our members and guests enjoyed a very festive social evening, beginning with a traditiona­l Christmas dinner at the Whitford House Hotel on Saturday, December 9, With over 40 in attendance, it was a perfect evening from beginning to end. 2017 has been a great year for the group, with a number of enjoyable events, interestin­g day trips and a memorable mini break away. We look towards 2018 with optimism and in anticipati­on of sharing many more good times together. A very happy Christmas 2017 and an abundance of joy to you all.

MEMORIAL DISCS

This year’s children’s Christmas Carol service will take place In Carrig Church on Wednesday, December 20. at seven. p.m.

SCHOOL PLAYS

Ballymitty NS Christmas Plays and prize-giving. Wednesday, December 20, 1 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. Junior Infants – second class. Thursday, December 21, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Third to sixth class. All parents, grandparen­ts and friends of Ballymitty NS are welcome. Raffle on the day.

RAFFLE

The parents and friends of Ballymitty NS have a raffle for a range of Christmas hampers various sizes, we would like to ask our parents and community members to support us by purchasing lines at the following venues, Wellington­bridge post office, Foulksmill­s post office, Tír na nÓg, Stafford’s of Tullycanna, The Red Door and Geelan’s Garage Waddingtow­n. The draw will take place in Ballymitty NS on Friday, December 22. ‘Dancing.

Dancing continues every Thursday night in Tír na nÓg with the Christmas party night this Thursday the 21st with music by Delta Dawn free admission, no dance on Thursday the 28th and on New Year’s Eve Sunday the 31st we have Jimmy Barnwell and the Ballyculla­ne mummers. Due to your continued support the building of our new ball ally has started. Happy Christmas and New Year from the Ballymitty hand ball club.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Lotto numbers were 9, 11, 22 and 28. No jackpot winners Mia Ross Tír na nÓg was a matchthree winner well done Mia. There was also a Christmas draw for a bottle of Whiskey and the lucky winners were Pat and Margaret Doyle, Sinéad Fortune and Oliver Delvin well done to all. Next draw will be January 9.

The following were elected at the recent camogie AGM president Monica Fergerson, Chair Tom Cullen, vice Gary Sinnott, secretary Kirstie Sinnott, assist Pauline Fitzharris, treasurer Tina Fitzharris and PRO Denise Castle. We wish them all well in their new position’s.

SAD PASSING

Deepest sympathy to the Lacey family on the death of John last week. John was the loving husband of Sheila, son of the late Willie and Biddy and brother of Nellie, Breda, Maura, Joan, Mag, Mick, Billy, Paddy, Tom and the late Gerry. His remains were brought to the Church of Mary Immaculate and St Joseph, Carrig-on-Bannow on Wednesday evening with funeral Mass on Thursday the 14th at midday, with burial afterwards in Bannow cemetery. May he rest in peace.

We would like to extend sympathy to Mary Sweetman Mullally on the sad and sudden death of her husband Victor last Sunday. Victor is survived by Mary and his three daughters. His funeral was in Glenmore church on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

This year’s Christmas sale held in aid of Balloughto­n Church funds on December 2 was well attended as always. Thanks to all who supported this event this year and every year. LOURDES SOUVENIR DVD

For anyone who travelled to Lourdes this year, The Lourdes 2017 Souvenir DVD would make a perfect gift. The DVD comprises a wonderful record of video and photograph­s of this year’s pilgrimage and includes unique footage of Lourdes itself and its many aspects. Captured in the DVDs are the spiritual, joyful and serene aspects of the pilgrimage, and some of the work that goes on behind the scenes.

Copies of the DVD are now available in Billy Doyle’s Shoe Shop, Enniscorth­y and Wexford and in Ferns parish office or phone 087 2646410. COMMUNITY LOTTO

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €7,200. The winning numbers were 4, 17, 31 and 33. There was three matchthree winners who received €67 each. The winners were Dermot Roche, Sammys Crew and Mick Crowley. The next lotto draw will be held on Tuesday, December 19, and the jackpot now stands at €7,400.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

CHURCH DOOR

In an effort to maintain better heat and comfort in the church it has been decided to close the main door for the winter months during Mass times on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. Entry will be through the side door (scar door) and the tower door if necessary. We thank you for your cooperatio­n in this matter.

Wednesday, December 20, will mark the end of classes for 2017, but Julie will be returning to Rathangan Hall in the new year from Wednesday, February 21.

SYMPATHY

We extend sympathy to the family of Rich Rochford, Kilmannon, who died last week. May he rest in peace. Twist and Tumble Gymnastics the last class was held on December 12, and classes will resume on January 9.
