Volunteers served up a festive feast at St. Joseph’s

-

OVER 90 people enjoyed a specially organised Christmas Day dinner that was held at St. Joseph’s Community Centre.

Now in its second year, the event is the brainchild of local group Wexford People Helping People. Over four months of planning went into the event and more than 100 volunteers got involved.

A fundraiser earlier in the year ensured that places could be provided for 90 people and 70 others had meals delivered to their homes all over the county. Any remaining food was delivered to Ozanam House men’s hostel.

The event began at 10 a.m. with sandwiches and cake, tea and coffee, and biscuits and cordial for children. A bouncy castle, provided by St. Jospeh’s Community Centre was set up in the morning and toys were donated for kids to play with. Later, Santa arrived with presents for all of the kids.

Dinner was prepared and served by Jimmy Barry of Jimmy’s Kitchen and his team and desserts were sponsored by Paganini. Entertainment was provided by Nicola Ní Raghallaigh and her two girls - they played traditional Irish music and Christmas carols. Michael D’Arcy and Matthew O’Brien of Corner Boy also took time out of their day to perform for the crowd.

The group hopes to build on the success of the event for next year and says it will continue to work with those needing stability in their lives over the coming months and years.
