Council chief addresses staff
MORE THAN 650 members of Wexford County Council were briefed by chief executive Tom Enright and his management team last week.
The address, the first by a chief executive to the vast majority of council staff at the same time, identified the range of services offered by Wexford County Council and the opportunity was also taken to update staff in relation to the dozens of projects contained within the council’s Economic and Community Investment Programme.
The 16-page programme itself is due to be sent to every residential and commercial delivery address in County Wexford before the end of January. In his address, Mr Enright said that as Wexford continues to experience economic recovery, it is important that the council acts decisively to lead the development and delivery of a range of targeted initiatives that will help the county to realise the huge potential it has in terms of jobs, quality of life and the environment.
‘We musy have ambition and visio for the future.. County Wexford, with its many great attributes, should not have such a high level of unemployment, should not be exporting our young talented people and should not have some of the most socially deprived areas of the country.
‘We must invest in commercial property solutions which will attract significant new jobs and investments; we must invest in tourism infrastructure in order to capitalise on the growing tourist market and our greatly improved road connectivity; we must support communities throughout the county to develop their local areas to become vibrant and thriving centres,’ said Mr Enright. The chief executive said Brexit will create challenges for the Irish economy, but Wexford is in a strong position to avail of the opportunities that will arise.
County council chairman John Hegarty also addressed the staff members.
