Working on solution for Sinnottstown junction

-

COUNCIL boss Tony Larkin has taken it upon himself to try and come up with a solution to the problem of chronic traffic tailbacks at the Sinnottstown Lane junction on the Rosslare Road.

Cllr. Frank Staples called on the local authority to address the problem saying that with up to 15 businesses in the area including busy fast-food restaurant McDonalds, Kelly’s Cafe, Meadows and Byrne and the new Wexford Dialysis Unit, road management at the junction is a priority.

The Director of Services Mr. Larkin accepted that the junction poses ‘a big problem’ ,

He said there is a traffic safety issue but it’s difficult to put additioonal infrastructure there because it’s so close to the Rosslare roundabout.

‘It’s problematic. I’m intending to drive it on myself with the Council and the various people involved. At the moment we don’t know what the solution is’. He asked councillors to: ‘give me a month or two. I’ll come back in March with some kind of proposal’.

‘It needs a certain amount of energy’, he added.

Cllr. Staples said there are 400 people working in Eishtec and a new dialysis unit has just opened, bringing more traffic.

‘If there are businesses there must be levies. The onus is on us to sort something out at that junction’, said the Fine Gael councillor. ‘Because of the proximity to the Rosslare Roundabout, could Transport Infrastructure Ireland get involved’ Cllr. Ger Carthy asked if it was not the case that some design work had been done there, with the introduction of a filter lane.

‘The amount of traffic coming off that junction is unbelievable. There have been smashes there and there will be more’, said the Independent councillor.
