Sad passing of ambulance man Frank

-

FAMILY AND friends of Frank Stafford will gather at St Alphonsus’ Church, Barntown today (Tuesday) to bid farewell to the popular former ambulance man.

Frank, from Kingsford, Barntown passed away on Friday last.

Frank was best known for his time working with Wexford General Hospital’s ambulance corp, where he spent 35 years on the corp and another two years as an orderly.

He had followed in the footsteps of his brother Jimmy and uncle Billy, both of whom had also worked on the ambulances.

He retired from the ambulance service in December 2011.

Constantly described as ‘a character’, he was well-liked by all those who encountered him both through his work and socially. He had an upbeat personality and was always quick with a joke.

He was a great mentor to those who followed after him in the ambulance service, bringing many people through their training and out onto the road.

Frank is survived by his wife Nancy (whom he was married to for 45 years); his son Shane and daughter Michelle; his brothers Dom Gay, Georgie, Leo; his sisters Joy, Mona and Sr Ambrose; daughter-in-law Helen; grandchildren Emma and Laura; nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his brothers Jimmy Cecil, Billy, Dermot, Noel and Toddy.
