Tony’s lights raised €6,400

-

CHRISTMAS MAY have been and gone but local man Tony Fitzpatrick had one last gift to deliver last week when he presented a cheque for €6,460.04 to Wexford Hospice Homecare.

Tony, who decorates his home with Christmas lights every year and donates any funds raised to charity, chose the Hospice Homecare this year on account of his late wife Mary having received such excellent care from its staff. After more than 20 years of creating a festive spectacle at his Drinagh home, Tony’s efforts were recognised nationally when he won Energia Ireland’s ‘Most Christmassy Home 2017’ award.

The prize for that was €3,000 for the charity of his choice, a sum added to the other money raised in December.

Moira Cowman, from Wexford Hospice Homecare, said they were delighted to accept the cheque from Mr Fitzpatrick, saying his venture was able to create such good will in the run-up to Christmas.

She pointed out that the Hospice relied heavily on donations, which made up two thirds of its annual runing costs.

She said: ‘I’m constantly amazed by the different ways people, many of whom are feeling very vulnerable after a loss, come up with donations for the charity.’

She added that the nurses at Wexford Hospice Homecare provided exceptional care and assistance, not just to clients but to their families as well.
