A TRIBUTE TO FRANK
THE MEMORY of Frank Sinnott lived on in Wexford last Thursday night at the Frank Sinnott Memorial Snooker Showcase in the Riverbank House Hotel.
Frank who was a avid promoter was synonymous with snooker showcases in Wexford for the past decade and as a fitting tribute his friends Mick Purcell, Theo Valdez and Maurice McCarthy decided to press ahead with Frank’s plan to being Steve Davis to Wexford this year.
Prior to his death Frank had been in the process of organising a night with Steve Davis to play the best of local talent and a match with Rodney Goggins.
Maurice McCarthy said the event had been a great success. ‘It was a brilliant night. It went great and everyone had a terrific time.
‘We had over 250 people at it which is the biggest ever crowd for a snooker event like this in Wexford. The Mayor Jim Moore opened the event and there was a lovely video played which was a tribute to Frank and his life.
‘There was a few tears shed during that as people remembered Frank and his larger-than-life personality. I think a lot of people turned out more as a tribute for Frank rather than the event itself.
‘Rodney Goggins who had suffered a bereavement still turned up to play and that was fantastic. The highlight of the event was the match between Rodney and the six time world champion Steve Davis. Rodney won that match beating Steve 3 frames to 1. That made the evening for a lot of people I think.
‘Steve Davis himself was an absolute gentleman. He was very witty and polite and very funny. He got in lots of photos with people and really appreciated people turning out to see him.’
