Youth-led groups get equipment grants

- By DAVID TUCKER

YOUTH clubs, scout groups, guides and many other volunteer led-youth groups in Wexford have been given grants by the Waterford Wexford ETB enabling them to purchase much-needed equipment for their work with young people.

The grants, an initiative supported strongly by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) and Minister Katherine Zappone, was to ensure that local volunteer-led and -run youth clubs and groups had high-quality resources to meet the needs of the young people involved.

In particular it was to help the club leaders meet the standards for youth clubs and groups which the Department and the Education and Training Board expect them to achieve.

The WWETB supported 71 clubs and groups in Wexford and Waterford, and a total award of €329,489, averaging €4,641. Martin Fitzgerald, Youth Officer, with Waterford Wexford ETB says ‘this was a welcome boost for clubs that depend on fund raising and community support apart from the annual small grant from the Education and Training Board. ‘This grant was in addition to the annual grant allocation and was intended to assist clubs and group to improve the standard of service provided for young people.’ The Wexford grants were: 13th Wexford Scout Gorey €4,996.01; 22nd Wexford Oulart Scout Group €4,780; 25th Wexford Piercestown Scouts €4,940.81; 29th Wexford Blackwater €4,767; 2nd Wexford Port Sea Scouts €4,400; 2nd Wexford Scout Cliiford Street €5,000; 35th Wexford Kilmore Scouts and Ventures €4,999.12; 36th Ramsgrange Scout Troop €5,028.01; 3rd Wexford Gorey Scout Group €4,774; 6th Wexford Tusker Sea Scouts €4,750; Ballykelly Youth Club €4,996.69; Ballymurn Youth Club €4,835.50; Boolavogue Foroige Club €2,975.82; Bree Macra na Feirme €3,876.27; Bree Youthclub €3,557; Bunclody Foroige Junior Club €4,773; Caim Youth Club €5,100; Castlebridge CGI €5,003.98; CCE Gorey/Ballygarrett €4,975; Clonard Guiding Unit €3,546.61; Clonard Youth Club €4,294.56; Cois Barry Youth Club €4,885.36; Cool Monday Night Club €4,787.15; Courtnacuddy Youth Club €4,272; Crossabeg Youth Club €4,986.67; Danescastle Music Group €5,000; Dungarvan Brownies/Orchard Ladybirds €999.99; Enniscorthy CGI €3,160; Gorey Girl Guides and Rangers €4,381.59; Kilmuckridge Foroige Youth Club €5,000; Kilrush/Askamore/Ferns Macra na Feirme €1,491.21; Lee Heights Youth Club €1,991.83; Make A Change €5,215.10; Marshalstown Youth Club €3,825.04; Our Ladys Island Youth Club €5,800; Rosslare Youth Club €2,998.51; Seashell Girl Guides €4,387.15; St Martins Guides Piercestown €4,993.70; Summerhill Guides (CGI) €5,019.20; Tagoat Foroige Youth Club €5,000; Wexford Harp Ensemble Loch Garman €4,980 and Wexford Town Unit CGI €2,929.74.
