Ferns United book place in quarter-finals

-

Wexford Women’s Cup

Ferns United 5, Corach Ramblers 0: Premier side Ferns had to work hard to overcome 2A team Corach Ramblers but eventually booked their place in the quarter-finals thanks to a 5-0 win.

Aoife Devereux and Emer O’Leary scored a goal each while Liz Evered looks to be returning to scoring form as she netted a hat-trick.

Women’s Premier One

Seaview United 0, North End United 0: The big game of the day in the Premier division saw end-to-end football with loads of chances but no goals as Seaview edged a point clear at the top of the table, while North End sit just three points behind.

The home side probably did have the better chances but found a well-organised North End side difficult to break down and, in the end, both sides had to be content with a point each.

Cloughbawn A.F.C. 1, Adamstown 2: Adamstown will feel fortunate to have come away from Cloughbawn with three points as they had to work very hard to overcome an in-form home side who are still well in contention for the title.

Ulrika Dreelan was on target for the home side while goals from Julie Colfer and Marcella Cullen saw a relieved Adamstown leave with the three points.

Camolin Celtic 3, Bree United 2: This win for Camolin keeps them well in contention for the league title but they had to work very hard to overcome the division’s bottom side.

Lauren Sinnott and Emma Buckley scored for Bree but two goals from Niamh O’Leary and one from Grace O’Halloran gave Camolin their fourth victory of the season.

Women’s Division 2A/2B

New Ross Town 0, Forth Celtic 4: It’s difficult to see anyone catch leaders Forth as they recorded their seventh win of the season away to a young New Ross Town side. Goals from Emma Clarke, Tara Hayes, Natasha Byrne-Rossiter and Sarah Siggins gave the visitors a comfortable three points.

Bunclody A.F.C. 6, St. Joseph’s 1: The home side are up to second in the table after this comfortable win over an understrength St. Joseph’s side.

Johanna Walsh scored for the visitors but four goals from Nicole Fortune and one each from Alma Morris and Chloe Moynihan saw Bunclody take the points.

Women’s Division 3

Shelburne United 1, Ajax Athletic 0: These two sides who are near the bottom of the table played out a hard-fought encounter before Shelburne recorded their second win of the season. Kelly O’Rourke was the heroine for the home side as she scored the only goal of the game.

Bridge Rovers 0, Stoney L.F.C. 3: With nine wins from nine games and currently an eleven-point lead in the division, it is difficult to bet against Stoney being the first title winners of the season at this stage.

A 3-0 win away to Bridge Rovers keeps them well in control of the division, with Lisa Marie Doyle scoring twice while Caroline Butler-Hallissey also got her name on the scoresheet.

Cushinstown A.F.C. 2, Wexford Bohs 3: The home side led 2-0 in this match thanks to two goals from Rosie Bennett, but Bohs called on all their experience to come back and win 3-2 and keep their promotion hopes alive. Holly Hynes, Shirley Roche and Denise Leniston were all on target for the winners.
