Pet owner whose bull terrier bit woman in the arm is fined €150

-

A FINE of €150 for having an uncontrolled dog was handed down to Darren Donnelly (43) of 87 Talbot Green, Wexford.

His bull terrier was seized by the dog warden after it bit the arm of a woman called Jennifer O’Brien in Talbot Street on June 23, 2016.

It would not let go until it was beaten off but fortunately no major injury was caused.

The pet was normally kept in at the back of the house where Donnelly lived but on this day a door was found to be unlocked.

Judge John Cheatle pointed out that what happened must have been terrifying for the woman who was attacked. However, he accepted that the dog, which was later put down, must have escaped without the defendant’s knowledge.

Five months was allowed for payment of the €150 fine imposed in the District Court.
