Tony and Kitty celebrate a novel anniversary

-

AS BIG anniversaries go, the 53rd doesn’t usually factor into the equation, but for local couple Tony and Kitty Hynes, the 53rd anniversary was one that deserved a proper celebration - to make up for missing out on a big one a few years ago!

Tony and Kitty (nee Moran) had been set to celebrate their 50th anniversary three years ago. However, Kitty fell and sustained an injury a few weeks before the planned celebration and Tony took ill and, as a result, the party was cancelled. This year, their daughter Sinead said they decided to have the party and enjoy marking the occasion.

About 40 friends and family attended the event at the Riverbank House Hotel where they enjoyed dinner and plenty of reminiscing and story-telling.

Tony and Kitty, both from Wexford, met through one of Kitty’s brothers, who Tony was friends with. Kitty worked in Woolworths, Tony was a member of a showband and also had a furniture store on the quay. He asked Kitty to accompany him to a concert one night and the rest, as they say, is history. The couple were married on February 20, 1965 and Kitty joined her husband in his grocery shop on High Street.

Following that, they lived on Mary Street where they reared three daughters Suzanne, Lorraine and Sinead. Tony and Kitty can now dote over their two grandchildren Lorcan and Katie, and they keep busy in their respective ways: Tony still loves music and is a member of the Wexford Folk Orchestra and the Loch Garman Band. Meanwhile, Kitty is involved in charitable work with St Vincent de Paul.

A great night of nostalgia was enjoyed by all and the family thanked the hotel and its staff for their hospitality.
