G.A.A. fundraiser on track
THE WORLDS of G.A.A. and horse racing are set to collide at the Punchestown Festival on Saturday, April 28, as Wexford G.A.A. hosts its ‘Wexford Day’ fundraiser.
Both sports are very much steeped in the history of Wexford with names such as Aidan O’Brien, Jim Bolger and Paul Nolan leading the way in their field, while the current resurgence of the county hurling team under Davy Fitzgerald has really captured the imagination of the Wexford public.
In addition to this, Wexford native and former Adamstown G.A.A. player Richie Galway has been Director of Racing at Punchestown since the mid-1990s and is delighted to accommodate his home county at the track’s corporate entertainment section and reserved enclosure for the fundraiser.
This five-star track-side facility with panoramic views of the race course and private lawn access ensures extremely comfortable surroundings for all in attendance.
Local G.A.A. representatives have also been courting Richie to secure some valuable tips from his mother-in-law and Gold Cup-winning trainer Jessica Harrington in a bid to lighten the day’s expense.
Wexford day will take place on the final day of the festival which is now known as ‘family day’, and an atmosphere of celebration, fun and frolics is promised as the purple and gold army bring colour to proceedings.
M.C. will be Liam Spratt, who will keep people informed with a celebrity tipster panel, interviews with sponsors and sporting celebrities. Keep an eye also on the best dressed Wexford person competition.
The exclusive package currently available are for tables to ten people to include the reserved enclosure admission and race card, a private table with a fourcourse lunch, table service from the bar and live music.
Gates will open at 11 a.m. with lunch to be served at 1 p.m. and the first race to start at 2.30 p.m.
Racing finishes at 6.40 p.m., followed by music until around 8.30 p.m.
To secure a table contact Wexford G.A.A. at Punchestown co-ordinator Tom Galway at 0872887792, or Wexford G.A.A. at 05391-44808.
