57 houses for council under ‘Turnkey’

MINISTERS and government deputies were quick out of traps to welcome the news that Wexford County Council is to get 57 new housing units in Wexford and Gorey as part of a government initiative.

The Turnkey Housing Scheme is administer­ed by Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy and involves local author- ities acquiring properties in turnkey condition.

Thirty-five of these units are in at Ard Uisce in Whiterock, Wexford, while 22 are in Gleann an Ghairdin on the Ballytegan Road. in Gorey, at an overall cost of €13.25 million.

The Turnkey Housing Scheme is part of the council’s delivery programme under ‘Rebuilding Ireland’, the Government’s Action Plan for Housing and Homelessne­ss and is funded by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.

Minister Paul Kehoe (pictured) said the provision of housing remains a significan­t challenge to the Government ‘but we are making progress under “Rebuilding Ireland”. This is a significan­t announceme­nt for the county.’

Minister Michael D’Arcy said the building programme was ‘great news for Wexford’.
