Wins for Leonards and Shamrock Rovers in U11 Cup

-

DESPITE GETTING in before the worst of the weather, there was still only limited action in the Wexford and District Schoolboys Soccer League last weekend. However, several sides did take their chance to advance further in the cup competitions.

In the Under-11 Cup, three games were pushed out to yesterday (Monday), three were completed, one was called off and one walkover was given.

Camolin were the beneficiaries of the free stroll into the last eight, and their reward is a tricky away tie at Moyne Rangers, winners against Corach Ramblers.

St. Leonards made full use of home advantage, coming out on top against Killenagh, and they will meet the winners of Blackwater and New Ross Town in the last eight.

Shamrock Rovers needed extra-time to see off Oylegate and their reward is a home tie against either North End or New Ross Celtic.

In the last remaining round two clash in the Under-13 Cup, New Ross Town went to Gorey Celtic and came away with an impressive 4-1 victory. They will now play Wexford Albion in the third round.

Six games in the last 16 went ahead too, with the clash between Gorey and Rosslare Rangers featuring on this page.

The big surprise of the round came in Castlebridge where the Division 1A hosts fell to talented Division 2A outfit Shelburne.

In another shock, Oylegate made the short trip to Glynn Barntown and sent another Division 1A side packing.

There was no such upset in Enniscorthy where-high flying Moyne fired four past Clough- bawn.

Forth Celtic didn’t need to take to the field to advance past Kilmore, while Bunclody, leaders in Division 2, proved too strong for Adamstown.

Rathnure moved a step closer to the Division 3A crown with a big victory over Cushinstown.

With two games left they lead Kilmore by three points and know that just four more points are needed to secure the silverware.

With Under-14 Division 1 so far behind schedule, the league managed to squeeze in a round of fixtures.

Fethard looked to be coasting their way to the title with a perfect record coming into the weekend, but Wexford Celtic threw a spanner in the works by beating the seasiders 2-0.

Gorey Celtic took advantage by besting All Blacks 3-0, and they move just two points behind Fethard at the summit.

Elsewhere, in the bottom of the table clash, Shamrock Rovers picked up their first win of the season against Glynn Barntown.

Only two Under-15 games took place, both in Division 1. Incredibly, North End played just their second league game of the season on Saturday and made it a perfect two-from-two with a classy win against Forth Celtic.

With Enniscorthy Town not in action, St. Joseph’s partially took advantage by drawing with Gorey Rangers.

The point moves the Kilmuckridge side level at the top of the table but they will be looking over their shoulders at North End in the coming weeks.

Weather permitting, this week the action reverts back to the even age groups while midweek games are just around the corner.
