North End sink Celtic
Premier Division
North End United beat New Ross Celtic and the weather when they overcame the Barrowsiders 4-0 in their Premier Division match on St. Patrick’s Day.
The Sky Blues will be glad to have gotten one of their numerous games in hand out of the way, with the snow putting paid to the rest of the men’s fixtures 24 hours later.
It was a routine victory for the champions, with Andy Moore helping himself to a double and Adam Beary and Jason Murphy also hitting the back of the net.
John Godkin’s men continue their quest in the New Balance FAI Junior Cup next Sunday when they take on Ayrfield United in the quarter-final at Ayrfield Community Centre at 2 p.m.
The winners will meet St. Michael’s from Tipperary in the final four.
Stanno Wexford Youth Cup
Wexford Albion kept their hopes of lifting the Stanno Wexford Youth Cup alive when they eventually saw off the strong challenge of Division 2 table-toppers St. Cormac’s on Saturday.
Shane Bergin, Liam O’Connor and Dale O’Reilly got the goals for the winners, with Jamie DempseyDoyle scoring twice for the saints, who tasted defeat for the first time this season.
New Ross Celtic joined them in the third round thanks to a hardfought 3-2 win over Forth Celtic. Keane Walsh, Darren McDonald and Jake Gorman got the goals for the Barrowsiders.
Rosslare Rangers needed penalties before finally shaking off the stubborn attentions of Gorey Celtic ‘A’.
The sides finished deadlocked at 2-2 after extra-time, with Rangers prevailing 4-2 in the shoot-out. Mark Atkin and Gavin Goodwin got the goals for Celtic.
Cloughbawn also booked their place in the next round, with Lewis McComiskey grabbing the only goal of the game as they edged out St. Leonards.
Elsewhere, Gorey Rangers and Shelburne received walkovers from Wexford Celtic and Gorey Celtic ‘B’ respectively.
Youths Division 1
Campile United moved into second place in Youths Division 1 after chalking up a good win on the road, overcoming Bridge Rovers 3-0 in Castlebridge.
Matthew Foley contributed a double for the winners, with Ben Cummins grabbing their other goal.
Youths Division 2
Wexford Bohs are just a point behind leaders St. Cormac’s after emphatically seeing off the challenge of bottom side New Ross Town in their Youths Division 2 match on Saturday.
The Wexford town outfit ran out 7-1 winners, with Todd Hynes, Darragh Nolan, Aaron Breen, Daniel Long, Andrew Byrne, Cian Whelan and Jordy Donovan all getting on the scoresheet.
Kilmore United also chalked up a handsome and impressive victory as they overwhelmed Curracloe United 5-0.
Diarmuid Cooney netted a double, while Seán Carley, Fionn Byrne and Chris O’Connor added a goal apiece.
Youths Division 3
Tombrack United battled back from a goal down to earn a share of the spoils against Gorey Rangers ‘B’ in a blustery Ballyboy on Saturday morning.
Rangers took the lead with a well-struck effort on 68 minutes, but the hosts secured a valuable point when Mick Fitzgerald found the back of the net with five minutes remaining.
