A treasure trove in Oylegate for vintage auto enthusiasts

-

VINTAGE AUTO enthusiasts and car owners had the chance to pick up needed parts and coveted memorabilia at the recent Oylegate Vintage Club Auto Jumble.

This is the third year of the event, which is held at Oylegate Community Centre, and over those three events, the gate receipts have raised over €2,000 for Wexford Hospice Homecare. This year, approximately €800 was raised and club chairman Henry Cosgrave said they were extremely grateful to the public and the auto jumblers who had supported the event.

He pointed out that parts for vintage cars, tractors, and motorbikes are always in hot demand and said that many a vintage enthusiast left content with their acquisitions. He added that, in some cases, specific parts were difficult to get and such events provided an opportunity for jumblers to find what they needed.

In addition to that there were plenty of nuggest of gold up for grabs in the shape of vintage memorabilia.

Mr Cosgrave said the group had decided about three years ago to try holding a vintage auto jumble and they were happy with how the event was developing, adding that Hospice seemed an obvious choice for a charitable donation from the entry collection.

‘There was a collection on the gate - people will dig deep for the Hospice because everyone knows it needs help to continue doing the great work that it does.’

He added that they had been blessed with the weather on the day which fell the weekend after Storm Emma and the Beast from the East snowfall.

‘We had thought about postponing for a week but, as it turns out, we were lucky we didn’t as we had more snow the following weekend! The evening before, we were out shovelling snow off the car park to make space for the crowd.’

He remarked that the feedback to the event had been very positive and the club was considering holding a second event in Autumn. He expressed his thanks to the women in the kitchen who kept the centre stocked with refreshments, as well as the general public and jumblers who had taken part in the event.

The club’s next event will be its Vintage Road Run which takes place on May 13.
