Kilrush forge second win

- UNA SINNOTT Division 4A in Ballyroebuck

A SHARP start from the visitors, Monageer-Boolavogue, ultimately ended in a heavy defeat as the Kilrush Under-20 football team produced the goods in this Greenstar Division 4A championship game in Ballyroebuck on Friday.

Two fit and ambitious squads were out to make an impact in the first ten minutes, with Ned O’Neill and Micheál Gahan exchanging scores.

From here on the men on their home soil, Kilrush, accelerated into a higher gear altogether. And when Conor Byrne kicked a sweet ball to the back of the Monageer-Boolavogue net, the black and amber side had created a four-point cushion for themselves.

Seán Kirwan added to this lead while Monageer-Boolavogue replied with a few sweet kicks from Cathal Walsh.

After a half-time score of 1-6 to 0-5 in favour of Kilrush, the second period began like the first ended, with the locals pushing forward once again.

Their strong top scorer, Ned O’Neill, claimed a goal for himself while James Byrne and Kevin Kenny both claimed points.

Robbie Donnelly, Gahan and Walsh were eager to get Monageer-Boolavogue back in the game, but Kilrush had built a fine lead which was set to increase.

After Darragh Kinsella danced around the Monageer-Boolavogue netminder for Kilrush’s third goal, the outcome of the match was well and truly sealed.

Huge efforts from Monageer-Boolavogue’s Cathal Walsh and David Mernagh were noteworthy, but the performances from the Kilrush back line were just as impressive.

With a stretch of eleven points between the sides, Kilrush now have two wins from two outings to their credit.
