AT LONG LAST: KENNEDY PARK SCHOOL PLAN FOR ASTRO TURF PITCH

END NOW IN SIGHT AFTER YEARS OF FUNDRAISING

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

A VERY lengthy fundraising campaign for a state of the art astro turf pitch at Kennedy Park National School is drawing to a close.

The Board of Management at the school has applied to Wexford County Council for planning permission for the erection of an artificial sports pitch and associated fencing and site works at Whitemill Road, Whitemill South in Wexford town.

Speaking yesterday (Monday), principal Trish Tynan said she was delighted that the end was in sight for the fundraising campaign adding she was hopeful that the application would get the green light from the council.

‘It will be great for the school if we get planning permission to build the astro turf pitch. We have been fundraising for this for years and years. We haven’t raised the full amount yet but we are getting close.

‘We are hoping that by the end of 2018 that the pitch will be in place and in use. It will be a fantastic addition to the facilities at the school. Currently we only have a tarmacadam yard so to have this green space will be fantastic.

‘A number of years ago we bought the field beside the school and that’s where the pitch will be built. The kids can’t wait for it to be in place. It’s been a long time coming.’

Trish said that the full size pitch will be divided into four small pitches for daily use for the various classes and activities while for proper training practices and matches it will be used as a full sized pitch.

The application was made to the council by O’Leary Sludds Architects on behalf of the Board of Management of Kennedy Park National School.

Submissions and observations on the application may be made in writing to the planning department of Wexford County Council within five weeks.
