Rainbow Unit set to benefit from annual Blue Fun Run

-

THE THIRD annual Blue 5km Fun Run/Walk, in aid of the Rainbow Unit at Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts will take place on Sunday, April 15 at 12 noon.

The event was recently launched by Cllr George Lawlor and Wexford Hurling goalkeeper Mark Fanning, both of whom dropped into the school to meet the 18 kids in the unit and their teachers. The kids are aged between four and 12, and are all on the autism spectrum. The school was one of the first in the country to set up an autism unit.

Every euro raised from the Blue Run will be used to provide therapies, activities and resources for the children in the unit and the school expressed their thanks to their sponsors who so generously supported them again this year.

The run will follow a new route this year, starting and finishing at the school but travelling along Carricklawn to the Racecourse and back again. In 2016, the first year of the event, 419 people took part. That number jumped to 691 last year and the school is hoping that they will see similar numbers this year.

The event is a fun-filled, family day out, as well as being a timed event for regular runners. As in other years, there will be music, refreshments and a host of prizes. The school has also designed a smart new t-shirt for this year’s participants.

Log on to the event’s Facebook page where videos of support from Cllr Lawlor, Mark Fanning, and former teacher at the school, bestselling author Eoin Colfer, are posted. Runners and walkers can register online at: www.njuko.net/bluefunrun or on the day itself from 10.30 a.m. at the school.
