Claire scores big on game show

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

A Blackwater woman with a passion for her local GAA club scored on the National Lottery Winning Streak game show last Saturday winning a cool €35,000.

Medical secretary, Claire Whelan along with her family are involved with local Blackwater GAA club. Claire and husband, John frequently volunteer at the club and all four children play either football or hurling for Blackwater.

It was a great end to the Easter holidays of Claire’s four children, James (13), Barry (11), Ciara (9) and Jack (5), as they cheered their mum on from the audience in RTE.

John had received the call last week to let them know that Claire had been chosen to go on the programme and word quickly spread with congratulations pouring in ahead of her Winning Streak appearance.

41-year-old Claire, who works for a consultant at Wexford General Hospital, was also supported by her mother and father Eileen and Peadar and three of her siblings Austin, Peadar Jr and Jane. Her other brother Kenneth watched the show from home. Claire has not given a thought yet to what she will buy with her winnings but now she has done so well, she can look forward to spending it with her family.

The winning ticket was bought in The Trading Post, Ballinamona, Ballaghkeen, Enniscorthy.

A total of €236,000 was won on the game show on Saturday night.
