Bree ICA garden unveiled

-

THE culmination of three years of planning, fundraising, design and hard graft was officially unveiled in Bree recently as the local ICA guild officially cut the ribbon on its beautiful new commemorative garden.

There was a wonderful atmosphere on the day and performing the honours was Anita McNamara, grandaughter of ICA founder Anita Lett.

In constructing the garden, the group wanted to make sure it could be enjoyed by everyone and funding from Wexford County Council’s Access All Areas project meant that they could install a wheelchair accessible entrance.

Apart from that, all areas of the project were funded by the national ICA, Wexford Federation ICA and Bree ICA who are the custodians of the garden.

The group wished to thank the crew from Willie O’Neill Construction who did such fantastic work on the garden which includes four raised beds which double as extra seating. A wonerful stone table and benches were funded by Bree Men’s Shed and all planting was designed by Harry Deacon of Coolaught Garden Centre. Members of Bree ICA got out and got their hands dirty planting everything on a wet and windy day last autumn.

The garden is now available to the whole community as an area of quiet reflection, a place to meet for a chat and where guilds from all over the country come to see where the ICA began over one hundred years ago.
