Model Railway exhibition is on the right track as 600 attend
THE TENTH annual Model Railway exhibition was a great success over the Easter weekend, running for two days at St Joseph’s Community Centre.
The event, which is the main exhibition of the year for the club, was attended by over 600 visitors who hailed from all over the country as well as from the UK.
Gerry Byrne, the Exhibition Manager for Wexford Model Railway Club, said the exhibition had gained national and international acclaim as visitors and exhibitors travelled from all over to take part in it. They were blessed, he said, that they had such a large hall at their disposal, pointing out that while they had never been forced to turn exhibitors away, they did manage to fill the hall quite well.
‘We are getting a reputation for having a good exhibition and people want to come and show their models here.’
In total, the exhibition featured 29 layouts, seven model exhibits, a kids’ section with working trains, and 14 traders from all over the country selling their wares.
An independent judge was also present on the day and prizes were presented to winners of various categories.
Mr Byrne said they were very pleased to have their clubhouse at St Joseph’s and to be part of the community there.
He added that many of the club travelled to exhibitions around the country and he himself was showing at one in Wales later this year.
The club also hosts an Open Day in St Joseph’s during the Opera Festival in October.
