Wexford Sports and Classic Car Club stages its ‘Spring Challenge 2018’ event

-

CLASSIC car fans are in for a real treat later this month when the Wexford Sports and Classic Car Club stages its ‘Spring Challenge 2018’ event.

Since 2010, the club has been running a classic car show on the New Ross Quays on weekends in April, involving a Saturday Car show and Sunday 100 mile (challenge) charity drive.

Club chairman Ger Kielthy said the event had proved very successful with hundreds of cars entered, and the organisers had now decided to move the classic car show to Wexford Quays on Saturday, April 28, which will be the venue for the start of the 100-mile challenge on Sunday, April 29.

The charity drive will take in some very scenic roads, heading north on the coast road, the R742, for a lunch halt and two-hour car show at the Amber Springs Hotel, before heading south on testing driving roads towards Enniscorthy. The event will finish at Corcoran’s Bar, in New Ross.

Ireland’s rally legend Rosemary Smith will be driving a very special Opel Monza, in the dealer Opel team Ireland livery, driven on the Circuit of Ireland International rally in the 1980s .

Over the weekend, Wexford quays and the roads around the county will be filled with all car models from Austins to Mercedes, from Hondas to Opels, Renaults, Porsches, Volkswagens and various Fords in all shapes and sizes to name but a few.

‘Once again we have our close and good friends from Wales making a very welcome visit to Wexford with 50 cars to the quays as they take part in their Celtic charity classic tour 2018,’ said Ger.

Saturday will see lots of river activities as the club had joined forces with the RNLI Wexford Lifeboat station. Other beneficiaries will Wexford Marinewatch and Wexford Women’s Refuge.
