Top table changes at skittles meeting

-

THE EIGHTH A.G.M. of the South East Skittles was held recently and was marked by a full house, with represents from all clubs on the premises of Paul Morrissey’s of Cassagh.

The meeting was in the capable hands of Michael Carty (Chairman). Michael thanked his fellow committee members, especially Ray Colfer (Secretary), for all their help through the year in which another successful skittle season was enjoyed.

The sponsorship of a cup during 2017 by Paul Morrissey for the Junior singles was very much appreciated.

Congratulations were extended to St. Leonards on winning their fourth title in the Senior championship, beating Frank Jordan’s in the final.

Congratulations also went to Mary Joe’s on winning their first Junior title in their third time in the final.

Stephen Nash won the Junior singles and was congratulated for this achievement.

The Chairman himself was congratulated on retaining the Senior singles.

The other officers gave their account of their year’s work for the club. Ray Colfer announced he was stepping down as Secretary, as did David Ryan and Michael Walsh as Treasurers.

Officers elected for the coming year were: Michael Carty (Chairman), Michael O’Grady and Jenny Whelehan (joint Secretaries), Myles Byrne and Billy McDonnell (Treasurers), Billy Downes (P.R.O.), Francis Stafford (committee member).

Michael Carty congratulated the new committee and proceeded to read out the rules and regulations governing the games as adapted at last year’s A.G.M.

A lively debate followed from the floor, and a number of amendments and changes were voted upon.

These were then included in the conditions for the current year.

New teams or members would be most welcome to join up with this entertaining sport, which the association has been organising for the last seven years.

The two-hour meeting then ended with warm tributes to the outgoing members who stepped down for their commitment and dedication over the years to South East Skittles.

Thanks to Alan Morrissey for the use of his premises and for providing refreshments.
