Sulzer in the mix for national business award

WEXFORD COMPANY, Sulzer Pump Solutions Ireland Ltd., has been shortlisted for a national award for work it carried out in conjunction with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT).

The business is in the running for an award in the Consultancy Impact category of this years Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) Impact Awards. KTI is the national office that helps businesses benefit from access to expertise and technology.

The Wexford company began working with WIT’s, SEAM (South Eastern Applied Materials Centre) Research Centre, to re-design the rotor-shaft on a submersible, solids-handling sewage pump, called the XFP PE3. It’s the second largest pump built at the plant in Wexford.

Speaking about the project Ben Breen, Technology Centre Manager at Sulzer, said the work was ‘truly collaborative’ and that the overall result would be of great benefit to customers.

‘SEAM provide a complete materials investigation, design support, and failure analysis service,’ he said.

Mr Breen went on to say the collaboration has proven to be very successful and highlighted that by January, 2018, over 5000 units were shipped to customers ‘with zero shaft or fixing screw failures reported’.

The awards ceremony will take place in the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, on Thursday, April 26, where the keynote speaker will be Julie Spillane, Director with The Dock @ Accenture.

Sulzer Pumps Ireland Ltd. has been manufacturing waste water pumps since 1973 and is now the largest producer of submersible sewage pumps in the Sulzer Group supplying its products worldwide.
