Wallace’s become part of the family
WALLACE’S SUPERVALU, in Wellingtonbridge, has become an official supporter of the Wexford Food Family (WFF) after being nominated by members of the Wexford Food Producers’ Network.
To become a member of the WFF a shop, cafe, hotel or restaurant has to go out of its way to support Wexford food producers.
The official supporter status means Wallace’s can use the Wexford Food Family logo on their marketing material for the year. The event was marked with a plaque unveiling ceremony on Good Friday which was attended by representatives from a number of Wexford Food Producers including Trudy Power (Trudy’s Catering Kitchen), Neil Murphy (Wexford Cheddar), Tom and Laura Sinnott (Wexford Home Preserves) and Leigh Kelly (Zaeire Artisan Chocolates).
Joseph Wallace and Chrissie Harpur, from Wallace’s SuperValu, were also in attendance and Mr Wallace said he looked forward to ‘another 75 years’ of the business promoting local food and businesses.
‘This is very encouraging not just for the store but for everyone involved and builds on a history of local produce going back generations,’ he said.
‘As a store owner who lives and works locally, I am delighted to be able to support Wexford Food and promote Wexford as a food destination.’
He said his business was lucky to be able to provide top quality, locally sourced, fresh food.
Neil Murphy, from Wexford Food Family, also spoke at the ceremony and said local food brands are integral to the success of local SMEs (Small to Medium sized Enterprises).
He also commented that supporting local brands was important for the tourism industry in County Wexford.
‘Wallace’s are an important agent in facilitating those aims for the betterment of all involved, especially our customers,’ he said.
‘Stores like Wallace’s are vital for the success of low miles, local food.’
Mr Murphy said it’s easier for producers to get into the independent stores because they acknowledge where we are coming from.
