IN a major coup the Oyster Lane Theatre Group have secured the rights to stage Michael Collins - A Musical Drama this October.

The group had been set to stage Guys and Dolls this October but in recent weeks managed to get permission to stage Michael Collins which they snapped up. It will be the first time a musical society has staged this critically acclaimed musical drama since 2014.

Michael Collins - A Musical Drama will be staged in the Dun Mhuire Theatre from October 22 to October 27 as a fringe event of the Wexford Festival Opera.

The powerful show, written by Brian Flynn, tells the tale of ‘the big fella’ Michael Collins and is set against the backdrop of the War of Independence, the treaty negotiations and the ensuing civil war culminating in his untimely death at Béal na Bláth.

Michael Collins - A Musical Drama gives audiences a mesmerising portrayal of some of the major events in Irish history through a wonderfully written script and some beautifully written musical numbers.

Chairperson of Oyster Lane Theatre Group Greg O’Leary said: ‘We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to stage such an exceptional piece of theatre. We had previously announced ‘Guys and Dolls’ as our show for this year but when Michael Collins - A Musical Drama became available in recent weeks it was too big an opportunity to pass up. We also recently announced that we will be staging ‘Grease’ next year so there are very exciting times ahead’.
