Live Register figure falls in Wexford

THE number of people signing on the Live Register in Wexford has dropped in the last year according to the latest Central Statistics Office figures.

It has reduced by 12 per cent in the last year, which equates to 1,418 more people back to work.

According to the CSO, there were a total of 10,614 on the Live Register in Wexford in March 2018, a drop of 1,418 from the March 2017 figure of 12,032.

Majority of these were signing on in Wexford town with a total of 3,558. In Enniscorth­y, 2,769 signed on while 2,401 signed on in Gorey. The remaining 1,886 signed on in New Ross. All four towns saw a reduction in numbers of people signing on since last year with a drop of 594 in Wexford, drop of 315 in Enniscorth­y, a drop of 314 in Gorey and a drop of 195 in New Ross.

Of the 10,614 people on the register, a total of 749 were men under the age of 25, while 5,147 were men aged 25 years upwards. There were a total of 5,896 men listed in March.

There were 4,718 women in March, 552 of whom were aged under the age of 25, while the remaining 4,166 were aged 25 years upwards.
