Talk on rais­ing bilin­gual kids

A LEC­TURE on bilin­gual­ism will take place at Wex­ford town li­brary on May 1 at 7 p.m.

Trinity Col­lege Dublin pro­fes­sor in clin­i­cal speech and lan­guage stud­ies, Dr Francesca La Mor­gia will give a talk en­ti­tled ‘Rais­ing Bilin­gual Chil­dren in Ire­land’, of­fer­ing ad­vice on help­ing kids to de­velop two lan­guages si­mul­tane­aously and strate­gies to sup­port lin­guis­tic de­vel­op­ment through child­hood.

There will also be in­for­ma­tion about the cog­ni­tive, so­cial and ed­u­ca­tional ben­e­fits of bilin­gual­ism. Dr La Moriga will an­swer com­mon ques­tions such as why some bilin­gual kids pre­fer one lan­guage over an­other, and whether there is any truth in the sug­ges­tion that bilin­gual kids start speak­ing later in life or not.
