Min Ryan Park jobs appeal

-

THE contractor for works on the Min Ryan public park in Wexford is set to be announced, but concern was expressed that a Wexford company was passed over for the major job.

Cllr Ger Carthy sought a breakdown of the tenders for the park.

He said: ‘There are substantial sums going out,’ adding that it would have been great if local men and women could have been employed on the project.

Director of Services Eddie Taaffe said: ‘Contractors were assesed on the basis of the price and suitability following national guidelines. It’s always a balance between getting the most suitable contractor based on experience and price and getting local contractors. We have to ensure the contractor has the competency to complete the job at the level we want.’
