Glitz and glamour at inaugural charity ball
MORE THAN €5,000 was raised at the inaugural black-tie ball in aid of three local charities on Friday night.
Organiser Linda Brennan decided late last year that she wanted to raise money for both cancer and Alzheimers as they had affected her family.
Linda said: ‘I had a vision that I wanted to do something to raise money for cancer and Alzheimers as my mam suffers from Alzheimers and I’ve close friends and family who have been affected by cancer. The three charities, Wexford Hospice Homecare, South East Radiotherapy Trust (SERT) and Wexford Alzheimers, all do great work locally and I felt they would really benefit from the fundraising.
‘It was a great night. We had a fantastic turnout and it went really, really well. I was delighted with how it went. I had been nervous in the lead up to it because it was the first time I had done something like this but it went fantastically and there was some really great feedback from the guests.
‘From start to finish there was a great buzz around the place and people really pulled out all the stops in the glamour stake. We were very happy with how it went. The Talbot Hotel was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them.
‘The food was great and the band, Divine Invention, had everyone one the floor all night. There was a great vibe in the place.
‘MC on the night was Alan Corcoran and we had an auction on the night which Billy Dodd oversaw. That raised a good bit of money. Up for auction were boxing gloves from Billy Walsh, a Colorado Rapids jersey signed by Kevin Doyle and a Wexford jersey signed by all the current Wexford hurling team. We also had a holiday voucher from Relax Ireland.
‘At the minute we have around €5,000 raised but there’s still a bit of money to come in so it will be over that but we haven’t a final figure yet.
‘Overall I’m very happy and the was so good that I’m going to run it again next year and have already booked the band!’
