A look to the future for Fianna Fáil

-

LOCAL councillors imparted some words of wisdom on the next generation of politicians recently as Ógra Fianna Fáil held its AGM in The Riverside Park Hotel. Among those in attendance were Bill Underwood Senior Cdc Sec., National Assistant Constituency Organiser Eileen Higgins, Senior Party Chairman Brian Wallace and councillors Barbara Anne Murphy, Michael Whelan and Tony Dempsey.

At the meeting, Sinéan Scallan stepped down as Chairperson and received great praise from members and councillors for all her hard work in the role.

Cllr Whelan said that it was refreshing to see young people getting involved in politics and expressed his confidence in those present to make a real difference. Cllr Murphy spoke fondly of her own involvement in Ógra and how it provides great life experience by putting everyone’s ideas into a melting pot and also how she made friends for life through the organisation. Finally, Cllr Dempsey spoke of how young people have the power to drive change and urged those present to come forward with policies they feel are important.

After the speakers addressed the large audience, thoughts turned to the coming year and the election of officers. Andrew Bolger was elected Chairman and PRO with John Kehoe as Vice Chair and Tom Sullivan as Secretary. Newly elected Treasurers are Patrick Higgins and Cian Sullivan with Sean Brady as Membership Officer and John Higgins as Youth Officer.

The group are hoping to get a lot of work done in the coming year and will now get to work on preparing motions on EU patents, teacher’s rights, cyber bullying and much more. They also aim to host race days, sponsored walks and other events throughout the year and hope to attract even more new membership.
