Shayma Kamar tackles the refugee crisis

-

A NEW PLAY, written and directed by local actress Natasha O’Brien, pictured right, will be staged at the National Opera House on May 17 to 19, with the event being officially launched on April 27 at Fusion Cafe in the National Opera House.

‘Shayma Kamar, A Woman at War’ is a new Riff Raff Theatre production, directed by Natasha and produced by Catherine Richard. It stars Natasha, Finbarr Delaney and Lekan Akinyemi. With the Syrian War taking over today’s headlines, the play is an honest and humane examination of one woman’s journey as a refugee in the war.

Natasha is a local playwrights whose previous plays include ‘Parity of Pretence’, which was staged at the National Opera House and ‘Against All Odds’ which was written for International Women’s Day. Her interest lies in writing human stories and she has worked as an actor and director in TV, film and theatre for over 16 years.

Riff Raff Theatre was established in Wexford as a professional fringe theatre company exploring new work and new directions in theatre.

The show will run for three nights with a group only matinee on Friday, May 18 at 1 p.m. The launch, which will be performed by Tom Mooney, takes place at 7 p.m. on April 27. There will be wine and nibbles, with entertainment from musicians Martina Keane and Cian Furlong, both of whom will perform original songs.
