DAFFODIL DAY

A big thanks to everyone who supported daffodil day also to the business in Ballycogle­y, Bridgetown, Kilmore, Kilmore quay, Bridgetown college, Kilmore NS and Rathtangan NS who sold the daffodil flowers and pins. A total of €920 was raised.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Kilmore ladies’ Football club will host registrati­on evening on Monday, April 23, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the GAA complex. Cost of registrati­on: Adults €55, under-12 to Minor €40, under-10s €25 and under-eights €20, non-playing member’s €25. New members are welcome to come along and register.

SCOUTS

All sections can finally get out of doors to do some scouting. They’re updating backwoods, tent pitching, shelter building and pioneering skills. Some more kindling available for sale in the centre when it’s open. Thank you Karen and Mick for donating the timber.

BRIDGETOWN HANDBALL

Many thanks to everyone who supported our Easter Raffle at Goff’s Centra Bridgetown. Congratula­tions to the winner of our shopping trolley full of goodies, Patricia Bates from the Hill.

SYMPATHY

Condolence­s to the O’Brien family on the recent sudden passing of Eileen. Also to the Doyle family on the sad loss of William. May they rest in peace.

ACTIVE RETIRED BOWLING

Kilmore ARA had two teams competing in the county ARA bowling tournament over two days at Whites Hotel on Monday and Tuesday last. The Kilmore Seals team had a good tournament as they were placed third place overall just two points behind the winning two teams who tied at the top of the table. The Seals team comprised of Margret Howlin, Tom Dunne, Séamus O’Keeffe and Agnes Behan.

The Kilmore Gulls team meanwhile ended up in mid table and was represente­d by Joe Barry, Joe Bulmer, Anne Lawless, Noel Howlin and Frances Moore. It was an enjoyable two days of bowling, tired but happy. We will have bowling as usual on Tuesday the 17th in the Stella Maris Centre at 7 p.m.

MUSIC EXTRAVAGAN­ZA

A Music Extravagan­za takes place at Stafford’s of Tulllicann­a on Sunday, May 6, with music from 4 p.m. till late. This is a night not to be missed as there are a number of bands performing on the night with all proceeds from this unique event going to the Hope Cancer Support Centre, Enniscorth­y. Our Lady’s Island TABLE QUIZ

ATable Quiz will be held this Thursday, April 19, at 8.30 p.m. in the Farmers Kitchen, Drinagh. Tables of four €20 – in aid of Kilscoran Church Restoratio­n. Coffee morning.

A coffee morning will take place in Tacumshane Old School on Sunday, May 6 – all welcome.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to Lorna Sinnott on winning €135 in last week’s split-the-pot draw. Draw takes place in the community centre on Sunday after Mass.

DONATIONS SOUGHT

Now that spring is in the air, maybe you might be doing a bit of spring cleaning, please think of our own parish first. We would be very grateful for any items ‘New or nearly New’ and books for our second-hand shop in the centre. All proceeds go to our parish funds. Our helpers are all volunteers. ICA NEWS

here was a good attendance at the ICA meeting in the Community Hall on Monday last. Sympathy was extended to the Kavanagh, Doyle and O’Brien families on their recent bereavemen­ts. The summer outing was arranged for June 5 going to the Japanese Gardens, National Stud and Kildare village, bus leaving at 9.30 a.m. Non-members welcome, contact Lila at 9131145.

Margaret Brosnan, Oylegate attended and gave a demonstrat­ion on how to make beautiful cards for all occasions. Eileen Rowe also came along later and treated us to some ‘chair Yoga’ moves which was enjoyed by all.

Our next coffee morning will be on Thursday, April 26. Lila won the competitio­n and the evening was rounded off with a nice cuppa and treats.

The opening night for Piercestow­n NS annual Art Exhibition will take place on Tuesday, April 17, in the school at 6.30 p.m.

ARA CLUB NEWS

On May 29 there is a day trip to Malahide Castle and Gardens and visit to the lovely village of Malahide for browsing, Coastal Drive through Howth and evening meal in Glenview Hotel on way home. Taghmon Camross CAMROSS DRAMA GROUP

Following last week’s meeting, members will meet to read both 3-act and 1-act plays to plan for the coming months and drama festivals.

CLOTHES RECYCLING

Taghmon Camross Coiste na nOg are holding a clothes recycling collection on May 28, to raise funds for our underage teams. If all families could gather up 3-5 bags it would be of great benefit to this fundraiser. So, it’s time to get rid of all that winter clutter start planning now & we will update you with dates of nights that we can gather your bags. Please check out the clubs Facebook page for guidelines on which materials are acceptable.

ATHLETIC CLUB NOTES

Our athletes from Taghmon AC had a busy weekend with the last of the All Ireland Indoor championsh­ips on Saturday, the All Ireland spring Throws on Sunday and the Ferrybank AC open day in Waterford on Sunday.

Padraig Hore competed on both days. He finished 2nd in the Indoor shot putt on Saturday, then on Sunday came third in the All Ireland spring throws in the 1.75 kg discus with a new PB of 44.17m.

Aisling Kelly finished 4th in the All Ireland indoor long jump. Muireann Hore also competed on Saturday in the shot Putt where she threw well but unfortunat­ely didn’t medal. Bronagh O Hanlon finished 5th in the All Ireland Spring Throws on Sunday.

A group of our athletes travelled to Waterford on Sunday Hannah, Orla, Grainne Roche Kelly. James and Irene Hanlon, Becky Cashing, Flora Doran, Caoimhe and Roisin Reveille, Kayleigh Butler, Izzy Aspel Mark Banville and Danny Doyle. They all performed very well but as always the competitio­n was very high standard. James came first in walk and Hannah silver in 100m. Caoimhe got a pb in shot. A big thank you to Nash’s bus hire for their excellent service on the day.

CAMROSS ICA

Our last meeting was held on Monday, April 9, in Camross Hall. It was our AGM which was well attended by over 20 ladies. The ladies welcomed Mary D’arcy, Federation secretary, and her mother Maureen, who also attended our AGM Sympathy was extended to Breda Banville and Margaret O’Gorman for the recent passing of their aunt Clair Fanning. Also to Mary Kelly’s whose son-in-law recently lost his brother David. The ladies also wished Emma Shannon (Taghmon) a prompt recovery following her recent accident.

On behalf of all the ladies who attended the recent Irish Night, Dympna Kelly thanked all the musicians who took part in the event for a most enjoyable evening. Dympna also commended all involved with the recent production of the ‘Passion Play’ which was a great success. The Minutes secretary, the treasurer and the president gave their annual reports. Dympna then handed the chair to Mary D’arcy for our AGM.

There were a few changes to the committee as some ladies had been in their posts for three years. Mary Kelly replaced Dympna Kelly as our new president, and Dympna took on the role of Vice-president. Mary Nolan took on the post of Correspond­ance secretary as Breda Banville is also stepping down and is now our Produce Promoter. Berna Cadogan is our new Craft Officer. Margaret Nolan became our new Minutes secretary, replacing Margaret O’Gorman (Poulpeastr­y). Moiread O’Gorman is now our Timire (Irish Language Promoter). All other posts remaining unchanged. A big thank you to the ladies who are stepping down for their great work over the years. Mary Nolan congratula­ted the new committee and also Mary D’arcy for recently being elected as our new Federation president.

Delicious tea and scones were served by Margaret Nolan and Berna Cadogan. The winner of our monthly competitio­n of the ‘nicest tulips in a clear vase’ was Dympna Kelly.

A few dates for your diary: April 29 – Federation Bowling Competitio­n. April 30 – Federation AGM in Ferrycarri­g. May 13 – Our annual Ann Power Walk will start from Camross Hall at 6.30 p.m. with refreshmen­ts served in the hall afterwards. May 16 – Our own annual tour.

Our next meeting will be at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 14, in Camross Hall. The monthly competitio­n will be the ‘nicest neck scarf’ (any size, any material).
