The AGM will now be held on Wednesday, April 25, in the Scout Hall, Ballymore at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Sincere sympathy to the Doyle family on their loss.

THE LATE WILLIAM DOYLE R.I.P.

The local community and the greater part of South County Wexford was saddened to learn of the sad passing of one of life’s true gentlemen in William Doyle.

Born in Pettitstown, Ballycogley to parents Gertie and his late father Frank. William is survived by his mother Gertie his wife Jenny, his sons Seán and Rory, sisters Maria and Siobhán and brother Darragh. Together with his father up to his death William ran a very successful butchers business in Bridgetown and Kilmore Quay a business that he was to continue running up to his own sad passing.

William in his leisure hours was to become one of the stalwarts of the St Fintan’s GAA Club a love that was passed to him by his late father Frank. During his early years William would be taken to games at all levels by his father before progressing to play at underage level himself. During his secondary school days in St Peter’s College William was to become one of its teams stars in both codes a talent that served him well with his native club St Fintan’s in both codes at all levels.

His most memorable days as a player with his club were the winning of county titles in 1992 and 1999. He was one of the younger members of the victorious Junior B hurling championship winning team of 1992. Though titles eluded him following the 1999 triumph up to the time of hanging up his boots it still did not deter him from offering his time and knowledge of the game to his club in many other ways.

William was now to take on many roles as selector, mentor and coach and during these days he was to be successful and got great enjoyment from the intermediate football victories of 2012/13. From then on and up to his illness William coached the under-six and under-eight teams and a special day for him was when he took them to Croke Park to play on the hollowed turf.

A great clubman, a gentleman and a great ambassador for our National games, we will all miss the man they called ‘Buster’. As a mark of respect members of the St Fintan’s club carrying the club jersey marched beside the hearse carrying his remains to its final resting place in Mayglass cemetery. May he rest in peace.

BEREAVEMENTS

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of William Doyle Pettitstown Ballycogley, William sadly died during the past week and his remains were laid to rest in Mayglass cemetery. Deepest sympathy is also extended to the family and friends of Eileen O’Brien Rathronan Bridgetown, who sadly died during the past week and her remains were laid to rest in Kilmore cemetery. May they rest in peace.

ALL BLACKS AFC

The under-14 boys welcomed Fethard to Casey Park in the recent past. They started the game brightly and Tadgh Deegan came close with a right foot shot. Then Phil Tierney had a shot blocked on the line. Then Kyle Rankin shaved the crossbar with a header. Kyle then hit the post. Ben Rossiter had a half chance that came close. It Just looked like it was one of those nights when on the stroke of half-time Fethard hit the front with a well taken goal 0: one.

Early in the Second half Fethard were awarded a free kick for a hand ball a there man made no mistake to put them 2: 0 up. They took a risk at the back for the last 20 minutes as they pushed to try get back into the game and with 10 minutes left Kyle finished from close range 1: two. There winger then scored with a good strike.1: three and there were still time for them to get a fourth and in added time we got a o.g. 2: four the final score.

THERE was perfect conditions for a hotly contested cup game between All Blacks and Oyelgate during the recent past. Cheering on the home side were a strong level of expertise in supporters. Oylegate as expected showed great performance throughout. The deadlock was broken early in the first half with a Mark Doyle attack. The Blacks being fouled in the penalty area, a booking ensued with Adam Devereux finishing well. 1-0 to the home side. The second half as expected Oylegate made key substitutions and saw a number of chances go a begging.

The Blacks keeper Kevin Keeting having a much livelier second half. Steadfast in defense both Adrian Murphy and Mark Byrne in the center kept the Blacks ahead in the aerial battle. Justin Morgan and John McGuire equally standing firm to fast attacking forwards. Shane Goff, Peter Goldsmith, Jason Pettit and Mark Whelan kept the challengers at bay, all putting in a superb performance.

Fresh legs kept the Blacks contesting with Oylegate defense having an egually great period. Jason Petit/Mark Whelan were substituted with Conor Breen, the elusive speedy winger/Pádraigh Rossiter strong in the air being welcomed to create in the middle of the park. Conor giving extra running width on the right wing. Equally assisting Mark Doyle upfront with options to create.

ST FINTAN’S LADIES

The under-12 girls began their division two league campaign recently away to Clonard/Vols. The girls started off slow, trying to find their feet, but unfortunately after the third quarter they where not yet on the scoreboard. They had a few chances which where narrowly wide. Going into fourth quarter all that was asked of the girls was to just go out and work hard to win the last one but they did one better and went on to win the game 4-5 to 4-3. A big well done to all 18 girls involved and a special well done to Rebecca, who pulled of numerous saves in first three quarters.
