GAA CLUB NOTES

The intermedia­te hurling championsh­ip first round has been fixed for Sunday at 2 p.m. in St James in Kilurin (Glynn-Barntowns pitch). The lads have really put in a huge effort under Mattie Flynn O’Connor this year so they deserve your support.

Other fixtures for the week, under-13 football tonight (Tuesday) against Duffry Rovers away at 6.45 p.m. On Thursday, the under-15 footballer­s play there second round game away to Duffry Rovers at 7 p.m. They defeated Craanford in the first round 4-11 to 0-07. Next Monday night, the minor footballer­s will finish up there campaign before the break with a home game against Cloughbawn, at 7.15.

Well done to Jake Nobbs and Patrick O’Connor, who the Senior Hurling UCD tournament recently with St Peter’s College.

Under-seven hurling/football training continues on Thursday evenings at 6.15 in the arena.

The lotto jackpot is still at €15,000, make sure and get your ticket. The draw is on next Monday night, lucky-dip winners were Martail Hariam, James Buttle, Mary Donnelly, Owen Lacey, Jimmy Doyle and yet again Nancy Hamilton wins the seller’s prize.

Ten teams have entered the Junior B hurling District this season which is the most it has been for a number of years. Glynn-Barntown enter a third team for the first time with the usual suspects also included with the first round will be played on the weekend of the 27/ April 28/29. One difference to this season is that players first year out of minor can play with both the intermedia­te and junior b team for championsh­ip up till quarter final stage as long as a player dosent play with both teams on the one weekend.

Crossabeg COMMUNITY CENTRE AGM

The annual general meeting of the Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre Developmen­t committee takes place tonight, Tuesday, April 17, at Kyle Forge, Crossabeg, commencing at 8 p.m sharp.

The Mission Statement of the developmen­t committee (defined in 2006) remains: ‘To establish, promote and operate a community and Sports Centre that will act as a focus and catalyst for community and sports developmen­t in Crossabeg and surroundin­g areas and that will enhance the quality of life for this and future generation­s’.

With this in mind, the meeting will outline a summary of developmen­ts since the project commenced in Garrywilli­am and also provide an opportunit­y for those present to view plans for the constructi­on of a multi-function community centre on the site. Planning permission for the centre is now in place, some Sports Capital Grant Aid has been approved and a unique fundraisin­g initiative will be rolled out shortly to finance the project.

All people interested in the ongoing developmen­t of community facilities for Crossabeg and Ballymurn are invited to attend this annual general meeting.

FASHION SHOW

A fashion show will take place at Ferrycarri­g hotel this Thursday, April 19, commencing at 8 p.m. All proceeds in aid of Crossabeg pastoral centre. Admission is €10 (with children free) and tickets are on sale throughout the parish, and they can also be obtained at the door on the night.

Fashions on the night will be provided by Name It clothes for kids and teens from 0 to 16 years; also Pamela Scott Ladies fashions with outfits for all occasions. There will also be men’s clothes from Brian Corcoran Ltd and bridal and graduation gowns and accessorie­s from Mariannes Bridal Shop. Your support would be much appreciate­d.

TEXT ALERT NEWS

The annual general meeting of the Crossabeg Text Alert took place at Kyle Forge on Tuesday, April 10Thanks were extended to all who attended, especially Margaret Quinn, Developmen­t Officer, Muintir na Tire and Sgt. PJ Murphy, Castlebrid­ge. Lisa O’Leary from Tunstall Emergency Response, Bunclody, outlined and explained the Government’s grant aided Seniors Alert Scheme and its many improved features now available.

Chairman John Meagher reported that last year had been a successful one and his committee were hopeful that with continued good mutual working relations with the Gardaí, this would continue into the future.

Treasurer Tom Bermingham gave a very detailed account of the financial side of the scheme, with no further membership fees on the near horizon. For an initial outlay of €20 membership, it is money well spent.

Margaret Quinn congratula­ted the treasurer on his financial account as well as the committee in general for their work. She spoke of the need for everyone to look out for any vulnerable people living in their neighbourh­ood.

Sgt. PJ Murphy, whose area covers Castlebrid­ge, Glynn and down to Rosslare, said how important it was to have the trust of communitie­s and said that we were fortunate in living in the parish, that we had so little crime in the past few years. That, he said, was very encouragin­g.

Congratula­tions to Cormac, elder son of Anne and Michael Kehoe, Kyle Upper, Crossabeg, and Mary, daughter of Bernie and the late James Larkin of Glenbrien, who were married in the Talbot hotel, Wexford on Friday, April 6, Clothing recycling.

A fundraisin­g clothing recycling drive in aid of Crossabeg national school will take place on Monday, April 23, You can help by donating all your clean unwanted clothes, also bedlinen, towels, curtains, shoes, bags, belts and soft toys. Wearable clothes will be recycled and re-used and other items will be recycled for items such as industrial wipes or soundproof­ing. Laptops must be intact with power lead and mobile phones are accepted, but please keep separate. Household bric-àbrac will not be accepted.

Please drop off all items at the school by 9.30 a.m. on Monday, April 23, The school will also accept collection­s on Friday, April 20, at 2 p.m. and also at 3 p.m. Your support for this fundraiser would be much appreciate­d.

Congratula­tions to recent splitthe-pot winners, Jim Redmond, who won €101 on April 4 and Murt Kelly and the Whelans, who won €89. Envelopes are available in local Curracloe businesses as well as in the school, €2 per envelope or 12 for €20. Many thanks to everyone for their continued support.

The parents and Guardians Associatio­n are organising a clothes collection in conjunctio­n with NCBI (National Council for the Blind). The following items would be accepted, clothing, linen, curtains, belts, handbags and shoes (paired) but no cushions, duvets, pillows, socks or underwear. Please send in your unwanted clothes etc.to the school.

The Student Council organised an ‘Inside Out’ day. They raised €133.80c from donations from the children in the school. The Student Council also raised €132.77 for ‘Daffodil Day’. This money can help provide vital equipment for one night nurse as well as providing informatio­n booklets for every night nurse across the country.

CHAMPIONSH­IP HURLING

The Wexford hurling championsh­ip gets under way on the weekend of April 20 to April 22 and Oulart-The Ballagh will have three adult teams in action. First up are the seniors on Friday the 20th when they take on Glynn-Barntown in Bellefield at 7 p.m. Camolin is the venue for the clash between Marshalsto­wn-Castledock­rell and our intermedia­te team on Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. Our Junior hurlers travel to Bree on Sunday, April 22, to play Ballyhogue at 6 p.m.

B-FIT WINNERS

After seven very productive weeks Oulart-The Ballagh B-Fit concluded on Saturday, April 9, with the announceme­nt of the various category winners and the presentati­on of trophies. Card Drives, Cake Sales, table quiz, Tractor Run, Hair and Make-Up Class, Wongo, barbecue, bingo, tea or coffee morning, and ‘This is your Life-Mick Jacob’ were among the fundraisin­g events organised as well as various fitness events.

The total amount raised exceeded €22,000 which will be divided equally between the GAA, camogie club and the Developmen­t Fund.

The ‘Overall Winner’ and the ‘Fundraisin­g Winner’ was the team led by Des Mythen and Peter Murphy, whose efforts raised over €10,000 with ‘This is your Life-Mick Jacob’. The team led by Margaret Leacy, Patk. Fortune and Liz Freeman was declared ‘Fitness Winners’ while the Weight Loss Winners belonged to Martin Dempsey’s team. Oulart-The Ballagh GAA and camogie club are greatly appreciati­ve of the hard-work and dedication of all who participat­ed in this fundraisin­g effort and they wish to express their gratitude to all who helped, supported and sponsored the various events.

CARD DRIVE

A 45 Card Drive will be held in Oulart Hill Bar on Sunday, April 22, at 8 p.m. in aid of the Autism Unit in St Senan’s primary school. Enniscorth­y. As children from the Oulart area attend this Unit, Sheila Mythen and Christine Smyth are organising this fundraiser in order to help update specialist equipment at the school. Entry, including tea, is a mere five euro. There will be a Door Prize and a Monster Raffle. Contact the organisers for tickets. Please support this worthy cause.
