NOT EVEN the rain could dampen the spirits of those who laced up their runners and took to the roads for the third annual Scoil Mhuire Blue 5km Fun Run/ Walk recently.

The event, which has grown phenomenally in the past three years, had over 700 people registered, with over 500 of those participating in less than pleasant conditions! The run aims to raise funds for the school’s Rainbow Unit, which provides for children on the autism spectrum.

In total, €7,721 was raised from the event and the money will contribute towards trips, gymnastics, horse-riding, occupational therapy resources, sensory equipment, staff training, I.T. equipment and other facilities.

The run is a fun, family-oriented event, that is organised to coincide with Autism Awarness Week. The atmosphere at the school was electric with DJ Martin Gordon warming up the crowd while there was face-painting, candy-floss, inflatable horses, princesses and even a fire engine, on hand to keep the kids entertained.

The race set off at midday and the first runner home, less than 20 minutes later, was Darragh Cloake with a time of 19.21 minutes. The first woman was Annaleigh Hore with a time of 20.24 minutes.

Scoil Mhuire expressed its thanks to everyone who contributed, in any way, to making the event the outstanding success that it was, including all of their many generous sponsors. MORE PICTURES NEXT WEEK
