Is roundabout a Sinnottstown Lane solution?

-

CONSTRUCTING A roundabout appears to be the best solution to traffic woes at Sinnottstown Lane, according to council officials who were tackled about the issue at the recent meeting of Wexford Borough District Council.

Cllr Frank Staples, who has raised the issue in the past, asked for an update on the situation at the meeting.

Director of Services Tony Larkin said he had no formal report as of yet but said they were of a view that a roundabout would solve the issues in the area.

‘But the devil is in the detail so we need to look into it further,’ he insisted, adding that it would not be a cheap project and was not going to be done in 2018.

He estimated that the cost could be around €500,000 and said that the idea was to put all of the pieces in place this year for the job to be done in 2019.

‘The key thing is design, particularly with another roundabout so close by. We don’t want to solve one problem and create another. We will engage with consultants on the issue but we are a few months away from having a plan.’

He added that they were considering placing a temporary roundabout at the location as an experiment to see how traffic would adapt to it and whether it would alleviate the issues. He acknowledged that a solution had to be found and believed a roundabout was the best option in the short term.
