Wexford F.C. is now fan-owned
Supporters’ Trust meeting
THE HISTORIC first meeting of Wexford Supporters’ Trust took place in Ferrycarrig Park on Wednesday.
W.S.T. members at the well-attended meeting were congratulated by club Finance Officer Ray Noonan, as it was formally confirmed that Wexford F.C. was now the property of W.S.T., and they had each acquired an equal share of the club.
Progress on the club’s five-year strategic plan was outlined as the context in which the idea to convert the club was formed at the back end of 2017. The plan summarises the Wexford F.C. values under the acronym CanDo.
Community: To be a truly community-owned and integrated club;
Ambition: To play and be competitive at the highest level possible for each L.O.I. squad;
Nurturing: And support for the large number of volunteers to run the club in as professional a manner possible;
Development: That every young boy or girl who joins our academy or any of our playing squads will be given every opportunity to become a better player and a better person;
Openness and inclusivity: We cherish all participants equally, regardless of gender, colour, creed or sexuality.
The conversion was the culmination of the first key action, namely to become a truly community-owned and run facility. While devising the plan, the club board felt this was the only way forward, so that we could get increased buy-in, contribution and support from the Wexford football-loving and business community.
This was absolutely necessary so that we could support the ever-increasing League of Ireland participation of Wexford F.C. teams.
To mark the occasion, a ceremonial first-ever share certificate was presented by club Secretary Terry Cooke to one of the club’s best supporters, Frank Flanagan, who travels up and down the country to support all club teams.
If you would like to own a share in a League of Ireland club, membership of Wexford Supporters’ Trust is open to all. See www.wexfordfc.ie or talk to any committee member for details. Details of the club’s strategic five-year plan are also on the website.
