Big guns reach final four of Wexford Cup
Wexford Volkswagen Cup
Courtown Hibs narrowly avoided a potential banana skin in the Wexford Volkswagen Cup, while the other three favourites also came through their quarter-final ties.
Division 2 side Taghmon pushed Hibs all the way but lost out 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw.
Last season’s runners-up, Moyne Rangers, were made to work hard by Rosslare Rangers, eventually prevailing 2-1 after extra-time. Peter Marsden grabbed the winner for Moyne, with Johnny Flynn-O’Connor getting their other goal and Mark Furlong (penalty) replying for the seasiders.
Moyne will meet fellow Enniscorthy outfit Shamrock Rovers in the final four, with Marty Kelly bagging a double and Martin McKeown grabbing their other goal in a 3-2 win over Forth Celtic.
Darren Jordan and Ciarán Redmond hit the back of the net for the Murrintown men.
Premier Division leaders Gorey Rangers had a more straightforward task, running out 7-0 winners over Ferns United, with Joe Bolger helping himself to a hat-trick and Mark Woods and Gary Murphy both netting doubles. Rangers now face Courtown in the semi-final.
Neil O’Sullivan Cup
Páraic Conway was the match-winner for St. Leonards on Sunday as they booked their place in the last four of the Neil O’Sullivan Cup.
Conway got the only goal of the game as they edged out St. Cormac’s in their quarter-final clash.
North End United ‘B’ also made it through to the semi-finals thanks to a 2-1 win over Rosslare Port. Danny Fitzpatrick and Dylan O’Brien got the goals for the winners.
Billy Browne Cup
Rosslare Rangers ‘B’ and Wexford Albion will contest the final of the Billy Browne Cup after both came through their respective last four matches on Sunday.
Rangers did it the hard way, coming out on top 3-1 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw with All Blacks.
Daniel Halligan, Emmet Byrne and Liam Flood scored for the winners, with Mark Doyle, Peter Goldsmith and Adam Devereux hitting the back of the net for the Mayglass men.
Eddie Pitman, Kyle Mann and Jay Leniston got the goals for Wexford Albion in their 3-1 win over Crossabeg, with Conor Keeling replying.
Gwyn Jones Cup
Enniscorthy United ‘B’ and Boolavogue booked their places in the Gwyn Jones Cup decider, with both coming through tough semi-finals on Sunday.
Ger Molloy (two) and Dylan Groarke hit the back of the net for United as they edged out Boolavogue 3-2, with Shane Grannell and Tony Ryan (penalty) replying.
Kiltealy Celtic, who were crowned Division 5 champions on Thursday, were pushed all the way before seeing off Gorey Celtic ‘B’ 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
