FOOTBALL

A goal deep into injury time by substitute Eoin O’Callaghan earned St Fintan’s a draw against Duffry Rovers in what was the clubs second game in the Ashdown Park/Amber Springs Hotels intermediate football championship group B game played in St Patrick’s Park.

The Ballymore-Mayglass men started brightly and were soon three points to the good but then the men from the Duffry found their feet and led by four points when the half time whistle sounded. The second half began as the first ended with the Duffry in control and were seven points in front as the St Fintan’s men continued to struggle but county men Jim Rossitter and Donal Shanley with his accurate free taking added some spark and as injury time approached a goal seperated the sidesand it was in this period that O’Callaghan was to strike to leave the final scoreline of 1-11 to 0-14.

The junior B team got its campaign off to a winning start with avictory over neighbours St Mary’s Rosslare in a game played in Tagoat. Enda Newport was forced out of retirement to make up the numbers and was to show that he retains some spark.
