Nedezda’s touch of summer in Pigyard exhibition
WHILE THE real flowers of May might be struggling to make an appearance, there is plenty of colour on the walls of the Pigyard Gallery in Spectrum at the moment with the work of Nadezda Kakoli adorning the walls until May 19.
The Bangladeshi-born artist was joined by family, friends and art lovers, for the opening of her first solo Irish exhibition, which was opened by her friend, CEO of Future Nutrition, Siobhan Donnelly.
Nadezda and her husband Dr Shahidul Islam moved to Wexford, from the UK, in July 2016 after Shahiddul’s employer, Ms Donnelly invited them over to see the town and area.
30 of Nadezda’s watercolour paintings of landscapes, flowers and fruit are on display and the artist said that, since coming to Wexford, she has been inspired by Wexford Harbour and its landscape.
A graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Nadezda went on to study oil painting at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, China. She had her first solo exhibition entitled ‘Fantasy of Colour and Line’ at the Hashimoto Gallery in Fukuoka shi in Japan in 2003. Her work has also been seen as part of the annual Art in the Open festival in Wexford town.
Nature plays a big part in Nadezda’s work and she says that she plays with these themes in her own way to express her thoughts on the world around her. She likes to explore her own imagination, memories and ideas on canvas and paper, using all kinds of art media. In recent times she has started to experiment with installation art works.
