The under-14 boys Played their last home game of the season against a good Barntown team and came away win a 3: one win. With our goals coming from Mathew Lewis, Kyle Rankin and Cathal Parker. We now look forward to Shamrock Rovers away Friday evening in our last league game for this year and after that the Cup Final. The 2017/18 season came to a close for our under-11 girls in big barn against Wexford youths.

Youths were first to score and Aveen got the equaliser shortly after to leave it 1-1 going into half time. Youths came out stronger in second half, where unfortunately we didn’t have much chances at goal. Holly May pulled off some excellent saves and both teams finished off their seasons with a point each. A big well done to all 13 Girls involved and a speedy recovery to Saoirse and big well done to Ciara, who was involved with Sheffield team that won their tournament in the north today (congratulations also to Aoibheann from under-12 team who was also involved)

Big THANKS to Mammies and Daddies for your continued support on the line and helping out with taking jerseys and brining girls too and from training and games. There are always big numbers for two nights a week and match days we started the season off with 14 Girls and finished with 16. It normally goes the other way so we delighted to bits. A great bunch of girls with All their own personal individualities and skills. Our little family getting bigger and stronger season by season a great credit to you their families and to our club who they represent with great pride. We look forward to seeing Ye All again next season and hopefully hearing might improve. A little water was agreeded for only a win not a shower for a draw.

ST FINTAN’S LADIES

The under-16 girls travelled to Gusserane for their third match of the season, with only 12 players the girls took to the field and fought hard and took some lovely scores especially in the second half against a very strong Gusserane team, but it wasn’t to be their night, but the girls were still smiling and laughing at the end. The girls will have a break from matches for exams but training will continue next week. The under-12 girls travelled to Adamstown town first quarter started good and teams where pretty even... second quarter unfortunately Adamstown came out way stronger and went in at the half 3-3 to no score. In the last two quarters girls continued to battle hard and had there fair share of procession but we just couldn’t find the scores, and the game ended 5-5 to two points in favour of the home team. Big thanks to all 17 Girls involved this evening who battled hard throughout the game even through the hail stones - big thanks mams and dads are usual for your on going support.

The junior team played their second game of the championship in Ballymore v Clonard, playing with only 14 against 15 the girls got stuck in from the start and put some great moves together. At the break the sides were level 1-5 each, still with numerical advantage it looked like Clonard would pull away in the second half but our backs held strong with some great saves from Mary Rose, mid field and the forwards pushed on creating great scoring opportunities with St Fintan’s winning by a single point. ST FINTANS 2-10 Clonard 1-12, well done girls.

DRAMA

What a way to bring down the curtain on what was an epic year for the Ballycogley Players. The Jerome Hynes Theatre rocked as the group welcomed athletes from Special Olympics Wexford on stage to the sound of Simply the Best following another great performance by the cast and crew of the multi award winning play the Night Alive by Conor McPherson. Some twenty three athletes with their mentors and coaches will travel to Dublin in June to take part in the all-Ireland games. The group was honoured and delighted to be able help with their fundraising and we would like to thank Ger Carty, who was a major sponsor on the night. Thank you to our most generous audience who also supported the raffle.

LEINSTER CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to the girls of Mayglass NS who took the MCD centre in Navan by storm last Thursday to claim the schools first ever Spar Leinster 5a side A title and book a place in the all-Ireland final in the Aviva Stadium on May 30.

Having taken the scalps of the best Wexford and South Leinster had to offer the girls took on three schools from Dublin, Kilkenny and Louth.

In their opening encounter they accounted for Good Shepherd NS from Dublin 7-0. After a characteristic slow start the girls scored two in the first half. Upon resumption however they found the net with a long range kick after just three seconds and the floodgates opened.

Next up were Scoil Ciaran from kilkenny. A much more physical side, this was always going to be a tough encounter. Luck wasn’t with us as time and again we hit the post, the upright and sailed balls over the bar. Half time saw the girls lead 1-0 after a goal from Ciara but they were far from comfortable. Testament to their spirt and attitude however they regrouped at half time and kept the head – goals weren’t far away and the second half saw them slot home two more to win 3-0. Bellurgan NS from Louth were by far the strongest test to come, themselves having won their two games, 5-1 and 7-1.

On goal difference they were ahead so the final game was a must win to book a spot at the Aviva. With this in mind the Mayglass ladies broke from the traps with a controlled aggression that was to have the game beyond the reach of their opponents by half time. Always in control, they went 1-0 up after three minutes thanks to midfield maestro Tara, who had her left out calibrated after the second game. Bellurgan weren’t going away however and they crashed home a long range shot from one of their classy midfielders. This was to be the only goal the girls would concede. With Ciara on fire up front, she was on the end of a clever clearance from Clara and duly obliged in front of goal with classic composure.

On resumption of the second half a half chance ended up in the back of the Bellurgan net only for a penalty to be awarded for an infringement in the box – they say practice makes perfect and it’s exactly what Aoibheann delivered to the bottom left corner. Bellurgan had no response, and try as they may the stout defending of the girls in Black held tight and full time saw them claim a spot in the Aviva Stadium all-Ireland final.

The first Wexford school to reach an all-Ireland at the Aviva, the received their medals and Leinster Cup from nine other than International manager Martin o Neill amid rapturous scenes. We wish all the girls and their families and coaches the best on May 30.
