SCHOOL CELEBRATES AS NEW PLAYGROUND IS OFFICIALLY OPENED
OUR LADY of Fatima School in Wexford has officially opened its new playground as part of a week-long celebration marking its 50th anniversary.
Former school Principal Terry O’Hara, along with current Principal Rita Waters, cut the ribbon on the new facility on Wednesday before a crowd composed of students, teachers, parents and clergy.
Mr O’Hara also unveiled a plaque specially commissioned to mark the occasion and a very memorable moment came
when a number of doves were released to acknowledge the official symbol of the school.
When Mr O’Hara cut the ribbon those in attendance were invited to avail of a slice of cake that was cut by former teachers Joy Wall and Margaret Roche.
The day before the playground opening Bishop Denis Brennan celebrated Mass for the school assisted by chaplain Fr Aodhan Marken, Fr James Fegan, Fr Tom Dalton, Fr Paddy Brown and Fr James Cullen, who all have close links with the school. The school choir provided music at the Mass, which was followed by a reception in the facility.
A spokesperson thanked all of the people and local businesses who contributed their services free-of-charge for the day including Martin Wallace from Wexford Bouncy Castles; Frank Meagher; Mick Ryan; Kelly’s Bakery, Wexford; Fresh Today; Elizabeth Furlong; Cooney’s Bakery, Enniscorthy; the people of Wexford Parish; and the parents’ association.
