Investigating cash source
ONE OF the areas being investigated by the CAB is in relation to large houses being partly constructed and owners living outside of the country.
Cllr John Fleming raised the issue at last week’s JPC meeting: ‘A lot of these houses are unfinished and the owners are out of the country, and they also always seem to have brand new cars.’
Chief Supt Clavin replied: ‘Some of our investigations in Co. Wexford include exactly that.’
He said that in most cases the owners pay in cash to have the properties built: ‘We get behind the story of how things are got, like the cars and the large houses.’
He said that not all tip-offs to CAB result in assets being seized.
‘There are incidents, when reports are made, that we find things are being funded that are not criminal or crime related.’
