FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Congratulations to the children of Mayglass NS who received the blessed sacrament of Holy Communion in Mayglass church during the recent past. A big thank you to everyone who helped out in any way towards making it a great day for all concerned.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

The St Fintan’s GAA Club provided Wexford with two key players for its Leinster senior football first round tie versus Laois played in Innovate Wexford park. This game had everything with the home team holding a 10 point lead when the half time whistle sounded and were on level terms when the full time whistle sounded 1-14 each taking the game into extra time and it was in this period that Laois took control and ran out winners 2-21 to 1-18.

Donal Shanley was to contribute with eight points of the Wexford total and some stylish attacking play. Jim Rossitter was having an excellent game at full back till receiveing aserious knee injury just before the break up to when he had Laois danger man Donie Kingston under control. We wish Jim a speedy recovery and well done to both.

AWARDS NIGHT

One of our clubs greatest stalwarts was honored at the annual District Club awards. Nicky Newport was inducted into the District Hall of Fame. An avid player in his day for both club and county winning an all-Ireland medal with the Wexford Intermediate hurling team of 1961. Former Club chairman, treasurer for 30 years and current club president, Nicky continues to be extremely active in all club activities and meticulously manages the club lotto on a weekly basis.

St Fintan’s GAA club is honoured and privileged to have a man of Nicky’s stature to receive this prestigious award. Jim Kelly was awarded St Fintan’s Club person of the year also. We thank Jim for all his work on behalf of our club especially his commitment to underage teams over the years.

ALL BLACKS AFC

Under-14 boys finished off their 2017/18 league campaign with a 2-1 away victory over a excellent Shamrock Rovers Team. We opened the scoring on 10 minutes with Kyle Rankin hitting the net with a header from a excellent Luc Farrell cross. Lee Kelly then pulled of a excellent double save to preserve our lead. O.

ur defence of Evan Cullen, Cathal Parker, Luc and Philip Tierney, Ryan Goldsmith were outstanding all night and kept Shamrocks to long range efforts. Our midfielders of Jake Cleary, Tadgh Hayes, Tadgh Deegan, Conor Swan, Tadgh McDonald, James Wright and Kyle Rankin worked there socks off all night. Our second arrived with the star man Ben Rossiter, who robbed a defender through hard work and finished expertly. Rovers got there consolation goal late on.

We now set our sights on our Cup Final on May 26 in St Joseph’s Pitch Kilmuckridge at 11 a.m. Well done, boys.
