- By SARA GAHAN

Campile-native Saoirse Walsh is one step closer to being crowned Rose of Tralee after she was selected out of 13 to represent County Wexford on Friday night in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey.

Saoirse first visited the festival when she was three months old and it has always been a dream to return as a Rose.

‘It is an honour to be given the opportunity to represent my home county of Wexford on an international stage this year,’ said Saoirse. ‘Wexford has so much to offer in terms of culture, history and scenic beauty and I benefited greatly from growing up here.’

Saoirse is a Marketing Executive in London with Collier Webb who specialise in the restoration and interior design of historical buildings. Her work has taken her to New York, Paris and Los Angeles.

A former member of the Irish Youth Choir, Saoirse continues to perform with a number of choirs and has sung at the Royal Albert Hall in London with the City of London Choir.

Last year, Saoirse ran the Dublin Marathon for MS Ireland and hopes to continue her fundraising and volunteering for the next 12 months as the Wexford Rose.

More than 300 people gathered in the hotel to cheer on 13 Roses from across county Wexford, who eagerly waited to hear who would be crowned the Wexford Rose of 2018.

Wexford Rose of Tralee Coordinator Peter Cooney said he would like to thank Liz Collins Boutique, People Newspapers, Glamourize Hair Design and The Amber Springs Hotel.
