Another Little Free Library is unveiled

-

THE SIXTH Wexford Little Free Library was recently unveiled at Allied Hub training centre in Whitemill Industrial Estate.

The initiative, which was set up by Leonard Kelly, aims to promote a love of reading by making books more accessible by encouraging neighbourhood exchanges, thus helping to build and strengthen communities.

So far, members of Wexford Working Men’s Club have built six libraries which have been decorated by six local artists, Olivia O’Dwyer, Martina Furlong, Bettina Meyler, Helen Gaynor and Gwenda Wallace, and Aaron McGuire. The other five libraries are situated at the Bullring Market, Redmond Park (where the emphasis is on children’s books), Whitebrook Estate, Piercestown, and VTOS in Westgate.

All activities carried out to date have been on a voluntary basis with Brian Whelan from Brian Whelan Construction installing the boxes.

Leonard said: ‘I have had great interest in the idea, and I believe that there is an opportunity to grow and develop the Little Free Library throughout the county. Terry Walsh from Allied Hub has agreed to cover cost for a number of new libraries, so if anyone is interested in having one installed in their locality, please get in touch.’

Invitations are also open to artists who might be interested in putting their own unique stamp on a library, or designing a sign to hang above them.
